Is “For the Sake Children” Really for the Children?
Behind the scenes of Tohoku High School Baseball: Balancing Guidance and Non-Interference.

Former Giants player Hiroshi Sato serves as the team coach for the Tohoku High School Baseball team. With a unique coaching approach that includes allowing the players to address him as “Hiroshi-san”, encouraging freedom in hairstyles, and playing J-Pop BGM during practices, Sato led the team to the 2023 spring selection competition.
The revelation of the challenge to “change high school baseball” was the sight of children who did not seem to enjoy playing baseball.
We asked “Hiroshi-san” to share his philosophy of player development and his aspirations and dreams.
