Summary: Yuko Shimazawa asks people she met during her research for her new book, “Toxic Sports Parents: Why do parents hand over their children to violence and sexual abuse” (BUNGEISHUNJU), which will be published on May 12th, why they were able to break free from such toxic behavior. “Everyone involved in sports says, ‘Parents’ must change their mindset.’ The two main causes of outrageous sports coaching are coaches who use violence and power harassment as tools, and parents who tolerate and support them,” says Shimazawa. How can we parents change? Can we become parents who support our children’s growth? Let’s hear from parents who have made changes in themselves.
